Volunteer With Toivo
Toivo Family and Community Initiative is a Nigerian research and policy organisation working towards a future in which families are prepared, supported and equipped from before childbirth. Volunteers extend what our small founding team can do, and this page explains what that means in practice before asking anything of you.
What volunteering with Toivo actually contributes.
Toivo is run by one founder across research, policy, communications and programme design. Volunteers are what allow that work to move at the pace our mission requires: turning research into explainers people can act on, keeping our communication with institutional partners current, and helping ANC Plus move from a concept into something ready to pilot. Time given to Toivo goes directly into work that is published, used by partners, or built into a programme that will eventually reach families.
You do not need to already know which role fits.
Toivo's volunteer needs sit across a few broad areas. Most people who reach out are not certain which of these suits them best, and that is expected. If you apply or express interest, we talk through your interests, skills and availability with you and match them against what Toivo needs at the time.
Research and Evidence
Supporting literature review, source verification and evidence gathering behind Toivo's policy briefs, commentaries and explainers.
Communications and Content
Helping adapt published research into accessible explainers, social media content and outreach materials, in Toivo's voice.
Programme and Community Support
Contributing to the design, coordination or eventual delivery of programmes such as ANC Plus and The Parenthood Transition.
Operations and Administration
Supporting the practical work behind the scenes, from documentation to coordination, that keeps a small organisation functioning.
What volunteering with Toivo involves.
Toivo's volunteer arrangements are informal in structure but real in contribution. Work is remote and scheduled around what you can realistically offer, not a fixed roster. Most volunteers contribute a few hours a week, though this varies by role and by what you agree with us directly. You will be introduced to the relevant piece of work, given the context needed to do it well, and given a genuine point of contact rather than being left to work in isolation.
Note. Toivo does not currently have active, funded volunteer placements tied to programme delivery, since ANC Plus and The Parenthood Transition are still moving through design and pilot preparation. Most current volunteer contributions sit in research, communications and operational support. We are direct about this so that your expectations match where Toivo actually is.
